Man. I had this beat for a while. I love the chorus/verse loop. It sounds like it's winding/unwinding or unspooling to me. I remember when I first made it, I was so stuck on it that I didn't even want to touch it. I just had the chorus/verse section on loop. It wasn't enough, though, so I went back at it some weeks later and tried to add another section, but it didn't pan out. A bit more time passes and this melody happens, and that's what you hear in the bridge and refrain. Then I really knew I had something. I tried writing this song two different ways before arriving at the finished product. Third time's the charm, I guess. I didn't have the bridge verses written before I came up with the refrain that follows them. I actually came up with the refrain just singing melodies to go over the bridge instrumental, thinking I might just sing for the bridge instead of rap. So that happened. But the bridge instrumental was just too good not to rap on. So I had to come up with some bars for it. Lo and behold they hit me in the shower like the morning after, in the pieces they're delivered in on the track. And I was considering cutting the refrain and just leaving the verses for the bridge, but I just couldn't because that refrain hit all the way home, and I wasn't about to sacrifice emotion for accessibility. So hopefully some of you guys feel that shit. 'Cause I do in my fucking bones. I like this song because it's basically my version of like some ignant shit. You can gather that from the chorus. But you'd usually hear that over a trap beat, and I'm over here on some alt rock-rap-lullaby ass beat. And then the refrain comes in, and it's more alt rock than hip-hop, and I flip the whole ignant shit on its head like "see you don't need to do some dumb shit, just use this music as an outlet." 'Cause that's what it is, really. An outlet. And if you connect with it, you're plugged in. Corny, right? I hope this makes you feel something. That's always the goal.
